Separation of benzene and hexane by solvent extraction with 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bis {(trifluoromethyl) sulfonyl} amide ionic liquids: Effect of the alkyl-substituent length
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the effect of the alkyl-substituent chain in 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bis{(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl}-amide ionic liquids ([[C.sub.n]mim][N[Tf.sub.2]]), where n is equal to the length of a linear alkyl chain and takes the values 4,8,10 and 12)as solvents for the separation of benzene and hexane by liquid extraction, is done. The outcomes demonstrate that short alkyl chains on the imidazolium cation of the ionic liquid result in an enhanced extractive separation of benzene and hexane and also exhibit the effect of the relative degree of ordering in the ionic liquids on the extraction parameters.

Solvation dynamics and electric field relaxation in an imidazolium-P[F.sub.6] ionic liquid: From room temperature to the glass transition
Article Abstract:
The time-resolved phosphorescence spectra and anisotropy of quinoxaline are measured in an ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BMIM-HFP), in its supercooled state near the glass-transition temperature, where the solvent response times are between 5 ms and 2 s. A microscopic model can rationalize the decoupling of solvation dynamics from the longitudinal time scales and the limitation of this effect to the viscous regime.

Effect of nonpolar solvents on the solute rotation and solvation dynamics in an imidazolium ionic liquid
Article Abstract:
Toluene is chosen as the primary nonpolar cosolvent to study its effect on solvation dynamics in an ionic liquid (IL) (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, [bmim][P[F.sub.6]]). The comparison of the ionic liquid-toluene and ionic liquid-dioxane system has shown that, while a small amount of toluene has affected the dynamics, a larger amount of dioxane is needed for bringing the same effect.
